BASKETBALL CAMPS

Camp 2007 1.JPG

At UWSP we have built a strong tradition of conducting outstanding summer camps. We are able to hold those high standards year-after-year because our staff is committed to improve the skill level of Wisconsin's finest young basketball players. Campers receive individual attention throughout the duration of the camp from highly qualified high school and college coaches as well as members of the Pointer basketball team.

Additionally, our camps have proven to be successful due to many distinguishing features. We have unlimited accessibility to superb university facilities. Schedules are carefully planned to allow for maximum skill development. Campers have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of what it takes to become a complete basketball player. Finally, we pride ourselves on teaching the same fundamentals that we emphasize during the season to help make us a championship program.

Our staff truly appreciates being a part of the growth of young players, and we view this opportunity as a privilege. We have been fortunate to have the dedication of campers who return each year to continue working on their game and welcome the chance to work with new campers who want to become part of the Pointer tradition. Some of our greatest Pointer players were recruited because of their performance at our camps and fulfilled their dreams of playing college basketball here at Stevens Point. We hope to help you reach your goals by working with you at camp this summer!

Camp Director

Bob Semling

Semling.jpg In his third season as head coach, Coach Semling led UW-Stevens Point to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Pointers were in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll all season long, getting as high as second and only falling as low as 14th. The Pointers finished with a 23-7 overall record and made the WIAC Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years.

Coach Semling guided the Pointers to a NCAA Tournament first round win over the University of Chicago, but fell just by one point in the second round to Buena Vista University.

The Pointers had to deal with a slew of injuries to some of his starters this past season. Coach Semling stresses teamwork and trust and the balance and with the poise the 2007-08 squad showed dealing with these injuries reflects those characteristics. The Pointers went into the last game of the season with a chance to capture a conference regular season title.

Semling took over as head coach in August 2005 after two seasons as an assistant coach with UW-Stevens Point's NCAA Division III championship teams under Jack Bennett. He was also an assistant coach at UW-Stevens Point under Bob Parker from 1988-95 as the Pointers posted a 127-63 record, including a 27-2 mark in 1991-92. During Semling's first tenure at UW-Stevens Point, the Pointers won two conference championships and made two NAIA national tournament appearances.

He then spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at UW-Green Bay and one year as the Director of Basketball Operations at New Mexico before returning to UW-Stevens Point for the 2003-04 season. While at UW-Green Bay, Semling helped the Phoenix to a Mid-Continent Conference title and NCAA tournament appearance in his first season.

Semling was a three-year starter at quarterback at UW-Eau Claire from 1977-79. As a student at UW-Eau Claire, he assisted with Ken Anderson and the men's basketball team, making NAIA Final Four appearances in each of his final two seasons.

Semling then spent one season as an assistant at Park Falls High School and assisted Bennett for two seasons at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, reaching the state tournament with both schools. Semling was the head coach at Wausau West High School for three seasons from 1985-88, winning back-to-back regional championships in his final two seasons prior to his first stint at UW-Stevens Point.
